About Emibig

Where does Emibig come from?

Emibig is a Polish brand from Częstochowa, in the south of the country. According to the company, every Emibig light is made by hand in its own workshop there, and the owners personally oversee every production step. The lights go to around thirty countries. Emibig also states that the company runs on solar panels, limits its use of plastic and packs in sturdy cardboard.

The design follows international interior trends: clean metal fixtures in black, white or mocha, combined with glass globes, fabric shades, wood or rattan. If you furnish in a Scandinavian or minimalist style, you will find plenty here. Emibig is rarely outspokenly classic or industrial.

What is Emibig strong in?

Pendant lights. Of the almost 1,900 Emibig lights we stock, over 1,050 are pendant lights, over 500 ceiling lights and over 200 wall lights. Table and floor lamps together number around eighty.

  • Multiple light points. Almost two thirds of the pendant lights whose number we know have three or more light points: linear pendants above a dining table, clusters of globes and round pendants with six or nine bulbs.
  • Glass in many versions. Over 600 of the Emibig lights we stock have glass: opal (milky white), clear, graphite (dark grey) or amber, often within the same line.
  • Warm, dark colours. Mocha appears on over 240 lights and burgundy on just under 150. Few brands we stock offer so much choice beyond black and white.
  • Mid-range prices. Half of the Emibig pendant lights cost between €80 and €175. There is almost nothing above €400.

How do you read an Emibig product name?

Emibig works with short codes, and they are simpler than they look. Take COSMO 3 BL GRAFIT: COSMO is the line, 3 the number of light points, BL the black fixture and GRAFIT the colour of the glass. The number matches the number of light points in almost all cases, and therefore the number of bulbs you need.

  • S, M and L after the number are sizes. For the MONO flush ceiling light, that is 30, 40 and 50 cm wide.
  • BL and WH stand for a black and a white fixture.
  • OPAL is milky white glass, MOKKA a warm brown tint, MIODOWY (Polish for honey) honey-coloured glass.
  • SMART is the name of a ceiling light, not smart lighting with an app or voice control.

Which bulbs do you need for an Emibig fixture?

Emibig makes fixtures; you choose the light source yourself. That is why no Emibig light lists a colour temperature: it depends on the bulb you fit. For the pendant lights, it is mainly E27 (almost 600 models) and E14 (over 280), plus GX53, GU10 and G9. What those lamp bases involve is explained in lamp bases explained.

With multiple light points, count carefully: a FLORA 6 needs six G9 bulbs, a DRUMZ 6 six E27 bulbs. On the product page and in the cart, we show for most Emibig lights which lamp base is needed, with suitable bulbs alongside. You check the number against the figure in the name.

With glass, the shape of the bulb matters too. Behind clear glass (TRANSPARENT) you see the bulb itself, so choose a bulb that looks good, such as a filament bulb. Behind opal glass you do not see it, and an ordinary frosted LED bulb will do. Under a closed shade of steel or fabric, the light falls mainly downwards: above a table that is the intention, but as the only light source in a living room it often falls short. How many lumens a room needs is worked out with the lumen calculator.

Frequently asked questions

Are Emibig lights dimmable?

That depends on the bulbs you fit. A fixture with an ordinary lamp base can be dimmed if you use dimmable LED bulbs and a dimmer suitable for LEDs. In that case, use the same type of bulb throughout one fixture.

Can an Emibig light go in the bathroom?

No. The Emibig lights we stock are IP20 and intended for dry rooms. For a bathroom you need lights with a higher IP rating, depending on the zone; see bathroom lighting and IP zones.

Which Emibig lines have the most versions?

In our range, COSMO with over 50 versions, followed by ISTAR, ELIT, HILDE and GIGI with around 25 each, and MONO, which has over 50 versions as a pendant, ceiling and wall light combined.
