Linea Verdace

56 products

Linea Verdace is the lighting brand of GEVE, a Belgian family business from Wilrijk (Antwerp) that started in 1969. It is the brand for chandeliers and classic pendant lights: in our range some 240 lights, almost 80 of them chandeliers and about twenty with crystal. Most work with E14 candle bulbs and have five to twelve light points. Prices are higher than with most other brands: half cost more than €600. More about Linea Verdace

About Linea Verdace

Who is behind Linea Verdace?

Linea Verdace comes from GEVE, a Belgian family business from Wilrijk near Antwerp that started in 1969. The name GEVE refers to Geert Verdat; his mother Maria developed her own lighting collection under that name. The acrylic lights in particular were a success, later followed by Tiffany-style lights with capiz shells. The family then launched the Linea Verdace brand.

What is Linea Verdace strong in?

Chandeliers and lights with many light points. Of the some 240 Linea Verdace lights we stock, almost 170 are pendant lights and over 40 are ceiling lights. Almost 80 are described as chandeliers and over twenty have crystal. Almost half have eight or more light points.

  • Classic and baroque: Michelangelo, the largest line with over 60 versions as a pendant light, ceiling light, floor lamp and table lamp, from 3 to 40 light points. Also Barozzi, Brugge and Pedrera.
  • Crystal: Romance, Marie-Thérèse, Bachissimo and Trium.
  • Country style: Zenia, in glass and metal, as a pendant light from 100 to 150 cm long and as a ceiling light.
  • Design and industrial: iron wire globes with small G4 bulbs, concrete and copper shades, and the adjustable Mayfair wall and floor lamps in antique brass or nickel.

Colours here are soft and matt: grey, beige, pale ivory, cream with silver, rust. Prices range from around €75 for a simple lamp holder to more than €15,000 for a Michelangelo of 250 cm in diameter with 40 light points. One in three Linea Verdace lights costs more than €1,000.

How large should a chandelier be?

A commonly used rule of thumb: add the length and width of the room in metres and multiply by 10. That gives a guide diameter in centimetres. A living room of 5 by 4 metres thus comes to about 90 cm, a dining room of 4 by 3.5 metres to 75 cm. If the chandelier hangs above a table, the table matters more than the room: make it about 30 cm narrower than the width of the table, so that nobody bumps their head on it. Linea Verdace chandeliers usually measure between 60 and 105 cm, with a few exceptional models up to 250 cm. More in pendant light above the dining table.

With a large chandelier, also pay attention to the weight. Ask about it before you order and have the ceiling and the suspension checked to make sure they can carry it; an ordinary ceiling box is not made for every chandelier.

How much light does a chandelier with candle bulbs give?

That depends entirely on the bulbs you choose, and the difference is big. A chandelier with twelve E14 lamp bases gives 2,400 lumens in total with 200-lumen filament candle bulbs: atmospheric light. With 400-lumen LED candle bulbs, that becomes 4,800 lumens, double. Whether that is enough for your room is worked out with the lumen calculator.

If you want to dim, use the same dimmable LED candle bulb throughout and a dimmer suitable for LEDs; with twelve different bulbs you will never dim evenly. With crystal, choose clear bulbs: they make the crystal sparkle, while frosted bulbs make the light flat. See also dimming LEDs and lamp bases explained.

Frequently asked questions

Is Linea Verdace a Belgian brand?

Yes. Linea Verdace is the brand of GEVE, a family business from Wilrijk near Antwerp that started in 1969.

Are the bulbs included with a Linea Verdace chandelier?

With the models with E14, E27 or G9 lamp bases, you choose the bulbs yourself; the product page states the number of light points and the lamp base. The LED models, such as Uranus and the LED version of Volupta, have built-in LEDs, and with a few G4 models the bulbs are included. In that case it says so in the product name or the description.

Can I hang a chandelier in a room with a low ceiling?

Yes, with a ceiling model instead of a pendant light. Michelangelo, Zenia, Bachissimo and Trium are also available as ceiling lights, which sit close to the ceiling.
